The National Assessment Program -- Literacy and Numeracy  (NAPLAN) 2009 will be held on Tuesday 12 May to Thursday 14 May 2009.

The NAPLAN tests were first implemented In May 2008 and national tests were held in literacy and numeracy for all students in Australia at Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. These tests replaced the previous State and Territory-based assessments and have the support of all Education Ministers.

The Ministerial Council on Education, Employment, Training and Youth Affairs (MCEETYA), through the Australian Education Systems Officials Committee (AESOC), directed the Curriculum Corporation to project manage the tests which were held in May 2008, as well as the 2009 tests.
