NAPLAN Test Dates for 2009

The NAPLAN test dates for 2009 are Tuesday 12 May, Wednesday 13 May and Thursday 14 May 2009.

The major changes

Some changes have resulted from the introduction of the NAPLAN in 2008. These are not significant changes and relate to the timing and scheduling of the tests, rather than the style and conduct of the tests.

In most cases, the authority that had administered the State- and Territory-based assessments  continued to administer the national tests.  These authorities are referred to as Test Administration Authorities (A Test Administration Authority includes any State or Territory assessment agency or authority and the Curriculum Corporation). A full list with contacts is available on this website.

Catholic and independent schools may decide to have their test logistical services provided through the Test Administration Authority that best suits their needs.

Schools will be kept well-informed about any changes to their routine.

Alignment with the curriculum

The national tests will assess literacy and numeracy skills in much the same way that they are currently assessed in schools.  The test questions have been developed from curriculum documents used in the different States and Territories which, in turn, reflect The Statements of Learning.

Administrative support

Administrative handbooks for the 2009 tests with details about the tests  will be sent to each school and up-to-date information will be maintained on this website.

Timing of the tests

In consultation with all States and Territories, the test dates for 2009 have been set for Tuesday 12 May, Wednesday 13 May and Thursday 14 May 2009.

These dates were announced in March 2008 so that schools would have time to schedule them into their programs.
